  Journalism's Joan of Arc

With not much time to write reviews, occasionally I might be scanning a few extracts onto this blog. We will begin with Anita Pratap's Island of Blood. Click on the following links to read:

Defying press censorship - Sri Lanka : state sponsored genocide - Black July 1983
Aftermath of actress Shoba's suicide(1980)
Defying press censorship : Ground Zero, Babri demolition, Ayodhya(1992)
Defying press censorship - Interview with Prabhakaran(under hotel arrest), Delhi Accord(1987)
Ground Zero, War in Sri Lanka(1987)
When blood flowed freely : Sri Lanka(1989)
First CNN report/Detention on suspicion averted : Colombo(1996)
Thackeray escapes a conviction : Mumbai(1992)
Defying press censorship : Afghanistan takeover(1996)

nice links buddy....I am more interested in Island of Blood...will go thru later...

ipdiye picutre potu, link pottu evalo naala kaalatha otta poreenga :-)

Is it the same Anita Pratap who was the Chennai based columnist of 'Business India" a decade earlier?

I,
eppadi 'aur ek prem kahani'-ku 'hindi thinithal' solla maranthutta? :)

Syam,
cycle-gap-la yenna theepatti padam supplier-nu solreengala? :)

MD Saar,
Don't think she was with Business India. She was with Time in early 90s and CNN later on.

Mudar Patherya moved from Sportsworld to Business India, a big loss to sports journalism.

Thanks for your Kind comments.I was wanting to ask him on Madhav mantri being an influence on his cricet playing , but I preffered a 5 minute peaceful interview.. :-) , dats why didnt cross the lines.

I have a doubt, which I had earlier commented. How do you clip images from video?

hey i hadnt get for island of blood wanna have to go through that..

ttm:
Are all of these extracts from the same book ?
I kind of vaguely remember Shobha's suicide - I was expressly forbidden to read certain Tamil newspapers and magazines then by my parents -it was considered unsuitable for my age. So I could never figure out what the fuss was all about. I didn't know she was so young when she died.

Hello there..

I am not sure what you name is.. not of the comments call u by ur name as well.. so Mr.talkative... u got a nice flow of writting.. i admire us language..

there are lots of links in this post din't get to read all of them.. but the one about shoba's death rings a bell...

the writter is right when she said.. why hang and not have pills ... if u notice most of the suicides in the industry (of course the actresses) all or most of them have hung themselves, 90% of the time to a ceiling fan.. and with a saree... hmm.. it wud be interesting to learn more abt why such ideas creep up.. its not just the actresses.. i have known few of the general public resorting to such brutality towards their own self..

what is the pattern in such extreme thots.. may be a pschyatrist wud be able to give us insight it to.. let me see if i can do some research on this..

Good post.. keep them coming!!

-K

kartik,
i answered in the last post and in your blog as well.

prachi,
good luck.

bnb,
Shoba's cameo blitz in tfm has been discussed by the old-timers - Mullum Malarum, Agal Vilakku, Moodupani. I always felt while watching Marupadiyum, Sathi Leelavathi, Rettai Vaal Kuruvi, Balu must have surely had a sense of deja-vu during some of the scenes. What a hotbed of mystery and intrigue the cine industry is!

kanya,
That's a thought provoking observation indeed. Even recently 3 tele-actresses hung to death in the space of 4 months. Food for thought.

TTM, how are you?
Long time no hear!!

jay,
took a long time to realise who you are...doing fine :)

so now you have a job and *gulp* a life?

Agree with Syam. There are some blogs I go to regularly to enjoy the writing style and you disappoint me here.:-)

No surprise in that, TTM. Afterall, it's not the same nick!

:) read your comments-will reply as usual. :-P

Alo yenga yen copmment kaanum :O
Anyway adutha post pls.. Ithu yenaku konjam link ilathatha iruku :D
